about dayton

Dayton Yacht Harbor is a one hundred slip full service marina located on the west shore of Flathead Lake in the small town of Dayton, MT.  Dayton lies approximately 29 miles south of Kalispell, MT and 21 miles north of Polson, MT.

Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River. The lake sits at 2893 feet above sea level and is 28 miles long and 8-15 miles wide. The lake is 370 feet deep at the deepest point and is one of the cleanest large lakes in the world.

Adding to the lake’s character are several large islands; the largest of which is Wild Horse Island, (more than 2,000 acres). This island is home to several wild horses and a herd of Bighorn Sheep as well as numerous deer and bald eagles. It is now a state park.

Dayton Bay and adjoining Big Arm Bay offer prime sailing conditions throughout most of the day and evening. Easterly thermal winds begin between nine and ten AM and taper off by late afternoon or evening when the westerly thermals fill in. Typical daytime breezes average 6-12 knots most days.  Occasional frontal systems will bring in 12-20 knot breezes in the afternoons.

All in all, it’s a pretty special place. We’ll be glad to see you here.
